Up & Standing Once More

There's something amazing about the sport of Hurdles, it relates so well to life.

Mainly because I love to think that life is a ton like a race. We are all running, moving in a direction hopefully. But hurdles, man they teach something awesome.

For those who don't know, hurdles is a sport in which it's basically running but then there are obstacles in your path. Your job as the runner? Jump them. don't fall, and then jump the other one. What tends to happen? Falling, tripping, stumbling, and tons of bruises.

How do we combat this?

Get back up. Keep running, and jump the next one. You will need tons of practice because you can't get good at something if you aren't trying it over and over again.

The trick to hurdles?   --- Look above them; not at them. ---

BAM. There's the lesson for life. There's my lesson for life.

Life is more like hurdles and less like running. In order to pass them, maybe try looking "above" the hurdles, there is more to accomplish when we look elsewhere. If all we do is look at our "hurdle" I guarantee a crash every single time. Not saying that we can't look at them sometimes, but maybe don't focus on them, because sometimes that just makes it harder.

What do we do when we fall?    ---- We get back up. The only way to incomplete hurdles is to not finish the race. So understand that falls happen. WHEN the fall happens you have two choices, walk off the race and be a bystander making no movement, or get up, brush yourself off, and keep trying. You will be able to jump the hurdle. Eventually. We all will make it through.

I love the above picture. Maybe because of the amazing things it shows. Let's start with the guy on the far left -- That's what giving up looks like He is holding on and won't even try to attempt to jump that. Maybe the hurdle looks to big, maybe he just is done. Next in ---Ouch, that's a tough fall, life is incredibly hard sometimes. Middle man --This is the attitude of 'I will make it over this, nothing will stop me, (he knocked down the hurdle before this one) but look, he's back up and going again. The blue runner -- Tripped, and face first down, arms spread, The look on his face says 'I won't let this keep me down, I'm jumping right back up'. Then the farthest right, jumped the last one, and now this one, he's working hard, and maybe this corner isn't one of his struggles, but the next one might be, or it's his 4th time attempting this corner, we don't really know because you don't know what others have been through.

Shay's final say: Life is a little less like running and a little more like hurdles. Look above the hurdle to succeed it. If you trip, keep going. It may take time to get up and get running or jumping again, fear, doubt, and heartbreak causes that, but don't allow to let it control your life. Keep the power of your life in your hands where it's supposed to be. Life will always have it's hurdles but they are built to make you stronger, to teach you, and to help you become. So become up and standing once more!

Loves,
Shay!

Your "Thoughts and Prayers" Are Bullshit.

Yes. I said it. I also thoroughly agree with that statement. Here's why. As I've been going through pretty huge and life-changing medical problems, my family has been physically nowhere near me. Granted my intestine decided to swell up in Saskatoon, which isn't convenient for anyone. It's given me so much time to think, in some scary and painful moments. Let me preface this by saying I'm not a religious person,  However from what I know, God, helped those in need, he didn't just pray for the sick,  he visited them, and he served them. Let's imagine that when that blind guy came to he Jesus, Jesus said, "You're in my thoughts and prayers" and then left. That story would have turned out very differently. We all do and say things in our lives almost out of habit. Like think of how many times you've said "Hey how are you?" and not actually listened for the answer. Lots, I know. I do this ALL the time, and I'm working incr...

Lessons From Environmental Issues: State Shift

I've been taking this Bio class called environmental issues, and to put it lightly, there's not a whole lot that I like about it. However I found something useful this week, maybe something that touched me more than it should have. There are different types of changes in the environment. For example: Resilience :  is the ability for the environment to bounce back after something drastic happens. Like a tornado, or a hurricane. Let's put this into people's lives, this is like a break up, or the ending of a friendship. It hurts, it even devastates you but give it time, all things will go back to it's natural state. However long that takes, it will heal. You will heal. Then.. There's a change called a state shift . This is uncommon in the environment, because of it's tragic and lasting effects. A state shift means no matter how hard the environment tries, it will never be how it was before, it's changed and can't be reversed. Now let's ...

6 Things I Learned from Dating the Wrong Person

Sometimes we get it wrong. We simply get it wrong. On occasion it's because we are too stubborn to admit we are wrong, other  times its because we just didn't know. But just because we got it wrong doesn't mean we have to stay in pain for the rest of our young lives. It doesn't mean our hearts will be shattered forever. You know that saying, the one everyone says when you break up? It goes a little like this, 'At least you learned something.... right? ' Gosh. Doesn't that phrase piss you off? Yes, it bothers me as well. It takes time, TONS of time before a glimmer can even happen. After dating a man for almost two years, and being alone for the past year, I have decided to try what they all say, and figure out what I learned. Here are the ramblings of a stressed out college girl piecing her life together. Lesson 1: Not all the time is it a 'me' problem.  A relationship takes two willing adults to make it function. No matter how hard you try,...
